While I’ve been praying this past week leading up to the 21 day lock down, God has been giving me such a peace about this whole situation.

I mean, just like everyone else, I’ve got my fears.

BUT I was reminded that God is sovereign, that He is in control and that NOTHING takes Him by surprise!

Isaiah 55:8-9 says;

“My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord . “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.

And as I was praying for the leaders in our church and church leaders all over the world, I was asking God; “…but Lord, what do we, as leaders DO now?” and the answer I received was so simple and it applies to all of us – every single child of the living King.

“Draw near to me and I will draw near to you. Love me like you first loved me. Spend time with me and I will restore that deep love you once had for me. There’s nothing you can DO now except BE in my presence and LISTEN.”

I was reminded of the scripture Revelation 2:2-5 AMP;

‘I know your deeds and your toil, and your patient endurance, and that you cannot tolerate those who are evil, and have tested and critically appraised those who call themselves apostles (special messengers, personally chosen representatives, of Christ), and [in fact] are not, and have found them to be liars and impostors;  and [I know that] you [who believe] are enduring patiently and are bearing up for My name’s sake, and that you have not grown weary [of being faithful to the truth]. But I have this [charge] against you, that you have left your first love [you have lost the depth of love that you first had for Me]. So remember the heights from which you have fallen, and repent [change your inner self—your old way of thinking, your sinful behaviour—seek God’s will] and do the works you did at first [when you first knew Me]; otherwise, I will visit you and remove your lampstand (the church, its impact) from its place—unless you repent.

Now this is a pretty harsh rebuke from the Lord and I’m not saying that we are guilty of this at all.

BUT, as I was praying, I felt this overwhelming feeling of uselessness – “Lord, we can’t DO anything for you during this lock down. What now?”

Isaiah 55:6 NLT says;

Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call on him now while he is near.

Psalms 105:4 NLT says;

Search for the Lord and for his strength; continually seek him.

I felt the Lord say that this is the perfect time to draw close to Him and to love Him without all the distractions and without all the pressures of DOING things for Him – just to BE with Him.

I also felt the Lord say that He is continuously working in the background, building His church and that more and more people are being added to His family daily – new salvations and many prodigal sons and daughters returning to the Father.

That’s exciting church!

I believe we are going to see a church growth spurt all over the world after this pandemic and I believe God wants us to use this time to prepare ourselves for that time – to draw close to Him, to allow Him to fix things that need to be fixed and to allow Him to build our characters to be more and more like Jesus.

Let me end with Ephesians 3:14-20 NLT;

When I think of all this, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth.  I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong. And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.
